September is the month when parents are beyond thrilled that kids are going back to school, and well, kids, some will be happy while others want summer not to end! That, my friends, is life – it doesn’t come with a manual, you just have to figure it out! I must have heard at least several times this August that summer is the shortest season, while some northeasterners freak out, while others love the cold and can’t wait for fall, and those in the south who have had the very hot summer are ready for the next season. So is life!
So why all the talk about the weather, Suzane?
Well, because the weather is a lot like life. Although you know the season is changing, you may not know what it’s changing to. As life goes on, we never know what’s around the corner. On one hand, you know fall is coming, you just don’t know what that may or may not mean to you. We all know the hurricane devastation last year, and we hope it doesn’t repeat itself this year – all are praying. Or just maybe it’s the hurricane in your own life. I’ve been getting lots of emails from folks going through difficult issues during these times.
And as life continues its cycle, I continue as always to say there is one constant in life, and that my friend is love. Now, that could mean many different things to many people to be sure; however, there is not a person on this earth who does not want to be loved, period. It’s probably where, in many ways, most of us learn our important lessons and or have our greatest joy. As with all aspects of life, it requires attention, just as all living things do. Plants, animals, trees, and yes, humans.
All seasons have their particular beauty, changes, and those changes are wherever we physically, emotionally, and mentally are.
I also believe that when we want to make changes in our lives, there are seasons or times that are naturally more aligned with our emotional and mental state of mind to act on it.
September is naturally a time when we think of beginnings because we were programmed from a young age. That has continued into adult life, where we plan summer vacations, just as children. I can vouch in my own world, and many therapists take off the month of August, and the minute Labor Day happens, the cycle starts all over again.
So, as I started this newsletter, we came back to everyone’s thoughts on September and how our lives are impacted. If for no other reason, we’ll enjoy the beautiful colors of Fall to come. Fall is always a very busy time for me, and this year is no exception.
For all you California folks, I’ll be in LA, San Diego, and Palm Desert. I’ll be returning to Massachusetts (Sturbridge) and Worcester in the Fall/Winter.
As always, I love connecting with many of you. However, I get to see many of you, Zoom, in person, and meet new folks as well, something I cherish in my life.
As the song goes, “See you in September?”
Warmly with love,
Suzane
