The Small Things That Connect Us All
November is the month of sharing the harvest and love, connecting with family and friends for laughter but, most importantly, love. Sharing our bounty where it’s needed and sharing the needed love where it’s needed everywhere.
A wonderful reminder is the hospice workers, nurse practitioners who help sick children, shamans who assist those in their transitions, and many who are there to listen to those who have had their loved ones cross over right before this holiday time. A time so needed for that support and, again, love.
The message is always: we are all needed to help heal and give in any way we can to those who need it. We are often called to do service in so many different ways that may not be our profession. It doesn’t have to be a major service; a simple task like helping someone who may be elderly with packages struggling across the street or to their car goes a long way. Getting on the bus in NYC the other day, I noticed a woman trying to get on the bus. It was obvious she couldn’t see to get her ticket into the machine, so another woman and I helped her out. A little help from a fellow New Yorker!
There are sadly children whose parents are being deported out of the country that other people are having to take care of and raise their children. I have a neighbor who rescues abused horses who, finally at the end of their lives, have a wonderful home and love. At the same time, another gentleman who I encountered shared how he happened to be in Northern California when the recent fires broke out and was able to help his dear friend rescue horses in neighbors’ barns. What was even more amazing was that his friend was helping another neighbor rescue horses, not knowing her own barn was on fire. And food banks are maxed out to the hilt, and so many folks are sharing their time in helping many elderly and those with children have dinner on their plates as we go into winter.
These are just some of the wonderful stories I’ve had the honor of hearing from so many as we come into the month of sharing harvest and love.
I’ve always said it’s not the big sharing but those small and special acts that connect us all. You never know how you make a difference in another person’s life. This time of year, there are so many ways we can help by sharing with others. Remember, it’s really never about money; it’s about something that touches another person’s life. I can tell you from my world, most people would give up anything to have those who are missing in their lives receive that missing hug, have a cup of tea, or see their smiling faces one more time.
Enjoy your holiday and always thank your blessings.
Love and warmth,
Suzane
