The Season Is Changing — and So Are We

Fall is Spring’s opposite, and while all seasons have importance in our lives, these seasons are significant. They often reflect or impel us to address our personal, professional, or life decisions on our journeys. Those decisions can have huge effects on our lives. Now kids, I’m not saying winter and summer are not important. God knows most everyone loves summer, when we want to kick up our heels and play in the sun. I also know some very, very serious skiers who can’t wait for winter. And for others, it’s a wonderful time to reflect, read, and hibernate. So why am I so focused on Spring and Fall?

These two seasons are often when folks focus on the beginning of new projects, changes in life, or feeling the need to do something new and necessary in our lives. Both of these seasons give us the spark to begin new projects, change directions in our work or personal life, or just shake up things we’ve been wanting to begin as our next steps.

I’ve always loved how our natural cycles and rhythms in life and directions align naturally with nature/seasons. We may not consciously think about it, but our minds, body, and spirit are rooted in these memories. In spring, we’re glad winter is over, and in fall, children are freaking out that summer is over and it’s time for school. We’ve been programmed since childhood that September is going back to school, and now it’s time to get serious! So, it makes sense that as adults we would continue these patterns throughout our lives. This, of course, is especially true if you have young folks in your life, whether they’re on their own journeys or not, because you’re probably involved in their lives.

The song “See You in September” makes one think about Fall, when the season has bright colors in those special places where trees are painted and crisper days and nights are welcome. And of course, the Autumn Equinox is September 22, 2026, at 8:05 PM.

I heard a gentleman say out loud the other day as he was climbing into his fancy convertible, “Why is summer the shortest season?” I couldn’t help but smile, seeing I was on the same page as him. It reminded me that we just naturally become aware of seasonal changes already in August. Therefore, resting my case!

So, kids, as they say, we’ve been here before toward the end of every August, when September is around the corner. So hopefully you’ve all enjoyed the wonderful end of August and are now welcoming the beautiful and colorful fall.

So, for all of you who have the special opportunity to not have to “travel” in the summertime when others travel, you can now maybe avoid the new “awareness” of traveling in glorious fall. There are so many wonderful places to see all those marvelous colors and avoid much of the crowds. This could be a very cool time to explore maybe one of your favorite hobbies: birdwatching, nature walks, and fall gardening. Yes, fall gardening for plants such as lettuce and other greens that prefer cooler temperatures.

On another note, my work is all about loss, period.

It’s impossible not to feel how painful the grief is for so many losses. My privilege is seeing the tears of connecting with those loved ones. Nothing takes away the grief we all must go through, but in our hearts, knowing that love continues does ease the pain. It’s something we all have to go through when losing our loved ones. Death is as much a part of life as life.

I’m sure each of us remembers those seasons and moments as well. With that, my friends, go and enjoy the changing of the seasons and bask in those moments, for those are yours, like memories; no one can take them from you. You can visit those moments in so many ways, and I believe one of them is their visits to you.

Love to everyone.

Love,

Suzane
